Website Builder: “What You See Is What You Get” VS “CVS”
Website builders are programs that allow the building of websites with no human code editing. They fall into two main categories: WYSIWYG or “what you see is what you get” and CVS or “copyleft based.” Both have their advantages and disadvantages. It really depends on your style of developing.
For those of you using a “what you see is what you get” website builder, you may notice that it will often give you a series of pre-made templates to choose from and then modify. This is where most website builders shine. You select a template, enter in your domain name and any other information (such as color schemes) and then use buttons to change the values. The website builders then save this information into a template area on your page, for you to edit any way you desire until you’re happy with your site.
On the other hand, if you’re using “cVS” or “copy-and-paste” software from the Internet, you simply copy the information you need from the template file, change the formatting, click the Save button, and start modifying your content as necessary. You can use any number of freely available HTML editors, such as Frontpage, Dreamweaver, and Microsoft FrontPage. Once your page is saved, you simply repeat the process as necessary – saving and repeating is the fundamental operation of website templates. Webmasters who use “squarespace” websites also benefit from using a “squarespace template” to produce uniform, consistent branding for their sites. Using “square space” templates is much faster and easier than manually building and editing HTML codes.
